About Life Amidst Triffids

Life Amidst Triffids is a curiosity cabinet.

It’s mostly about plants, and the things I think about plants. It’s also about the surprises that living things have for us.

I love plants. I’m curious about them, and I love learning about them.

If you’re here, then maybe that’s you, too.

About Me

As a gardener…

I’m not a gardener or a horticulturalist or a botanist by profession. I’m just curious.

I have, in the past, become a certified Master Gardener. In practice, however, I am a terrible gardener. I can point you to good advice, and even offer it, but please don’t ask to visit my garden.

Unless, of course, you are curious about life, death, and neglect in a plant enthusiast’s garden. It’s not glamorous. Weeds and dead things, mostly.

As other things…

If you are curious about me, you can check out my main website at cathychiba.com, or one of my other blogs, like Freak & Brilliant. It might give you some insight.

In my other lives, I am a speaker and a writer and a researcher. I have a knack for seeing things from multiple perspectives, and it helps me be a better communicator, a better connector, and a better researcher.

I love helping people bridge gaps. Especially gaps of understanding. It’s what I care about. It’s what I do.

Here’s a bio I wrote for another context. I enjoyed writing it, and it doesn’t make me wince when I read it.

Cathy Chiba helps humans create engaging conversations about complicated things.

In various phases of her career, she has studied tiny nervous systems, slain dangerous patents, and coaxed small children into touching electrified devices. She’s fascinated by the inner lives of inanimate objects, and is endlessly curious about science, technology, and human nature. She has an MA in Biological Psychology and a Master’s in Library and Information Studies.

She claims, however, that those degrees were eaten by the squirrels in her head.
